We had a very fun Christmas party this week with over 30 people attending. Thanks to all those who came and to our caterer, Valerie, who did an amazing job. Everyone enjoyed the delicious meal. Thank you also to Kristen for being the gracious hostess. Merry Christmas!

Kix and Vonnie Win First Prize!!

Kix and Vonnie won first prize in the costume contest on Saturday at the CKRH Riding for Hope Charity Fundraiser at the Kentucky Horse Park. Congrats to them for their blue ribbon! Rosemary, Janice, and Sharon also participated in the charity trail ride event. Bittersweet Acres was well represented. Thanks ladies!!

Lacy had a beautiful, healthy filly last night, sometime around 10:00. Mother and baby are doing well.

2011 Spring Immunization Day

We have asked Dr. Cook from Woodford Equine Hospital to come out on Saturday, March 12th at 8:00 to provide immunizations and worming for those boarders who would be interested. Obviously this is not a mandatory event. We are just offering it to those who would like to participate. Please sign up. Dr. Cook will soon be providing packages for us in the near future. Once those are posted if you want one of the packages, please indicate that next to your horse’s name. We are asking each boarder to provide Coggins, health papers, and proof of vaccinations (rabies and flu/rhino required) and worming for the protection of your horse and all others on the farm. So if you do not participate on the 12th, please provide those updated records to us by April 25th. If you have any questions, please let us know. Breakfast and coffee will be provided. Thank you.

Below are some pictures I took at about 7:30 this morning of the new barn and the snowfall at Bittersweet Acres. I has been snowing consistently since then. It is beautiful out here. The pictures below are of the hallway of the new barn, inside and outside of the tack lockers and the stalls, the destruction of the old barn, and some pictures of the snow. I hope everyone enjoys this cold but pretty day.

We hope you all had a great and safe Thanksgiving and are getting ready for the Christmas season. We want to apologize for the muddy mess that is now out here. The consistent rain since Thanksgiving day has made a disaster of the construction/demolition area around barn one and the new barn. If the ground is sturdy enough for a dump truck today, we are having a load of rock delivered to help with the mess. If it can’t come today, we will have it delivered tomorrow. Hopefully that will help with the mudfest going on out here.

Regarding the move and demo, I want to inform you of the progress. The tack boxes should be completed today if all goes as planned. Patrick is going to finish picking up the new barn this afternoon. So the only thing we are now waiting on is for KU to hook up the electric. Patrick moved everything underground and we are just waiting for the final approval from KU to hook it up. The crew that is tearing down old Barn one is suppose to be back today. It is a large group of 8-10 men from Midway who are taking the barn. Hopefully with that many men on the job, it won’t take them long to complete the demo, assuming the weather cooperates. As soon as the barn is gone, the addition will be finished. Then maybe we will stop making messes for awhile.

Just so you know, future plans for the winter include: cleaning up, landscaping, creating the trailer parking area, completing the addition of Barn with the lounge, bathroom, cross ties, hot water, and doors, fencing, and general maintenance. We do want to thank you for your patience during our major construction projects. So many little things we would like to address but with the renovation, construction, and demo of barns, those things have just been pushed down the priority list. Now that those things are being wrapped up over the next couple of months, we hope you will see major improvements to the general care of Bittersweet Acres.

We also want to welcome two new boarders in Barn 2, Shannon and Suzanne. Please make a point to meet these new boarders.

We also hope to see many of you next Monday night at Ramseys for the Christmas Party. I sent an email out about it yesterday. I think it will be a great time of fellowship.

Moving updates

To barn 1 boarders regaring the move into new barn 1.

I realized from some of the questions I have gotten, that I have not mentioned a
time frame for moving anything but horses into the new barn. I have since
realized that you all have more than just horses to move.
The plan for moving horses is the same. I would like to have them out of the
old barn Saturday night, and Sunday night, and we should be able to put them in
their new stalls starting Monday night at the earliest and Tuesday at the
latest. As stated before, stalls in barn 2 are available if needed.
I am hoping to be able to start on tearing the old barn down Tuesday, but can
likely put the crew off until Wednesday if that puts you all in a bind with
regard to moving tack, feed, etc into the new barn. The barn won’t come down in
a day so we should have a couple days to move before the old one gets opened up
too much.
Also I will be around to help as much as possible, and will be happy for you all
to use the gator to keep from having to carry so much stuff.
I know this is chaotic and I apologize, but very much appreciate all of your
patience, and you all have made construction, and moving very easy on us.
I am very hopeful, that if everything works out with getting the old barn down,
we could have the new one completely finished by the first of 2011, and then I
will leave you all alone to enjoy the barn without having to dodge building
materials all the time.

Again Erica and I want you all to know how much your patience and commitment
means to us and the farm.
